Think big and think beyond our means. That’s often what we are told right? But have you ever thought about the fact that no matter how much thinking you do, an idea is just an idea?
It’s the cold hard truth that no one says beyond telling another to dream bigger and to think bigger. Think of the next big invention, think of the next Facebook and Apple….but all of those are just thoughts without ACTION. If we were to sit down and count about how many ideas we had per day, how many do you think we can tally up? 10? 50? 100?
We need to move past the thinking aspect and stop believing that purely thinking about something is enough. The cold-hard truth is that it’s not. An idea is just an idea until you take actions to turn that idea into something tangible. Solely having an idea isn’t good enough to change anything in the world because it exists in your head. Taking what began in your head and finishing it somewhere else can create amazing impact.
And let’s forget about failure for a second here. Imagine all the amazing things that people can do if we all stopped believing we can’t or that our ideas aren’t feasible. Because all these innovations started somewhere: ideas in people’s heads. If you have a chat with entrepreneurs about how they started their business, I bet the majority of them will say something along the lines of “I had an idea of…”. And they are successful because they acted upon them.
An idea is just an idea without execution. And execution will take time, sometimes a lot of time. Nothing comes freely and it’s the time that will drive you to work harder, think smarter and become stronger. Our human creativity fuels our idea thinking tank and we can’t let it diminish without acting upon it. No matter how crazy you think your idea is, act on it, you never know what will become of it. Perhaps you fail and you move on to something better, but what if you succeed?
