I think the best part of summer has to be the wide array of clothes and shoes options that we have. During winter time, I am throwing on sweaters and jeans with the sole purpose of being warm haha. So I wanted to show you all my favorite shoes for this summer: wedges! As you all know, I am extremely short, people call it petite to sound better, so I try to add as much height as I can while staying comfortable. I’ve been preferring wedges over other heeled sandals because they are more comfy and can be just as cute! Plus, they are so versatile — you can dress them up or down. I just pair them with jeans and a plain tee and was ready to go!
I never thought too much of why wedges have cork heels until Alex asked me one time. Sooo I did a little digging to explain to him because I was sure it wasn’t just for style. Apparently, the first wedge shoe came about in 1935, designed by Salvatore Ferragamo, who used cork/wood instead of the typical materials for shoes like leather. Cork was often chosen over the use of wood because it was lighter and considered to be more durable and sturdy. As World War II came about, there was a lack of leather and rubber for typical shoes so shoes made of cork became more popular, such as wedges. Wedges have transformed over the years. From becoming more popular in the 70s and then resurfacing in the 90s as sneaker form.
This particular pair was from a place called Bata when I was in Italy. Unfortunately, they don’t ship to the US yet but you can get some if you are in Europe. But there are so many styles available that I can’t even pick my favorites! I thought I would never be someone who could pull of snake-print and always strayed FAR away from them. I see others styling them every fashion season and always watched from afar instead of joining. But when I saw these, I couldn’t resist. The subtle yet distinct print drew me in and I couldn’t say no. From far away, they just look like white wedges, but the beautiful patterns emerges as soon as you get up close. The minimalist strap detailing across the foot and around the ankles provides just enough added support to strap in your feet. They are the MOST comfortable heeled shoes I have. Even though they look so high, the platform in the front makes it easier to walk and balance in. I am able to walk around the city for hours in these, which gives it the ultimate stamp of approval!
One of the best feelings in the world has to be buying a pair of shoes that prove to be worth the investment. While the price tag on these babies weren’t the most affordable, I think they were worth every penny. And no need to break the bank either! Just forgo a few other pairs to invest in one, because it will become a staple in your summer wardrobe. For some reason, during this time of the year, I am running around with my wallet wide open, basically asking these stores to take my money because my googlely eyes can’t stop pining for some new pair of shoes. Please tell me I am not the only one! I’ve linked several other options of wedges within this post and let me know your favorite pair of shoes right now!
